I had the privilege to have dinner with a friend tonight at her nursing home. It was their Christmas dinner.
Another resident joined us, Ms. Mary. She will turn 93 tomorrow. As I looked at her face, wrinkled by the years, I noticed her eyes. They looked youthful and beautiful. They had a sparkle in them. I could not help but think that she must have been a beauty during her younger years. And, I could not help but keep looking at her.
I am grateful she joined us for dinner. I am grateful I had the chance to look at her, to really look at her. I had seen her before walking around the premises and tending to her plants but never really paid much attention to her.
Tonight I did. And I am grateful I was able to have a conversation with her and to enjoy her company.
I am grateful I was given the chance to make a new friend.
