Milkshakes

Today I am grateful for milkshakes, especially if they are shared with your child!

Milkshakes are always good, but when you enjoy them while enjoying the company and conversation of your child, they are even better.

Always make and take time to spend quality moments with your family members as these are the memories that will last a lifetime.

18. Faith

I stumbled upon a post on Facebook about a woman who supposedly was able to predict things that did happen. Her prediction for the next decades are scary.
I have to admit that, for a moment, I worried. Then...

.... Then I remembered that Heavenly Father is in charge and if I trust in Him, all will be well. I am not promised physical protection from all the evil in the world or anything else that might happen, for that matter. However, what I have been promised is that if I stay close to Him and His Son, Jesus the Christ, and if I follow their example, I will gain eternal life.

I will walk by faith, taking it one day at the time, and doing the best that I can to follow Their lead.

I am grateful for the faith I have been able to develop and count on to help me through the day. It is still a small seed, but it grows with each step I take on the path back home.

17. Midnight

Midnight is a totally black cat. He looks more like a kitten of possibly about 6 months.

He is very sweet and my son found him. Now, you have to know that if I had brought home another cat, he would have been upset because... well, we already have four! But because he found him, he has decided he is going to keep him.

I am grateful for this kitten because he brings even more joy to our pet filled home.

16. Warm Afternoon

The day started out with a chill in the air.

It was nothing out of the ordinary; after all, it is December and, in the Northern Hemisphere, it means two weeks to Winter.

However, starting early afternoon it felt great basking under the sun.
I almost felt like taking off my coat and just stand there, taking in all the warmth the sun was freely giving.

Today, I felt grateful for that sunshine that had escaped us last week.

15. Garage Sales

Although little money is to be made when selling during a garage sale, at least for the things I would sell, I am grateful that we have the opportunity to have them and to sell those items we no longer need.

It is also fun to browse and see what others have to sell. There are times that interesting things can be found. Indeed, someones trash can be someone else's treasure!

14. Fridays

I am grateful for Fridays for it means that I am off for the weekend.
I am grateful I have jobs that allow me to have days off.

There are plenty of people out there that do not have a job or have to work several part time jobs with no time off between shifts.
There are people who care for special needs children or adults and never have any time to do anything at all, much less rest.

I truly am blessed to be where I am and to have what I have.
Sometimes, it is the things we take for granted we should recognize and appreciate the most.

13. Good Deeds

In the words of a song, "...Now we have a world were people are confused, if you don't believe me go and watch the news..." (Follow the Prophet, LDS Primary Song); because of that, I am extremely grateful when I hear of people or see people who perform one act or more of service.

I look for these good deeds every day. They lift my spirit. They give me hope. They inspire me to follow suit. I don't look for them in the paper or the news, necessarily. I look for them as I am around and about at work, at the store, at church, or just walking down the street. I look for those acts that might go unnoticed by other people. Sometimes, these acts are recorded by a passerby who then posts them on a social media channel and so these act that started "in secret" become nationally known. Those acts are great as well, but it is the small acts of service that truly make me smile and restore my hope in humanity.

We need more and more people to do good in the world to counteract all the negative influences and acts perpetrated by those who have lost their soul to greed, envy, malice, and just plain evil.

Will you commit to do random acts of kindness? Someone on Facebook started the Random Acts of Christmas. Their goal is to have people post everyday about something good they did for someone else. I can see their purpose by making it public. So, choose your way to the daily acts of service. Go forward and perform those good deeds to make someone's day better. Give hope! Give love! And in return, you will lift your spirit, you will renew your joy, you will feel better about the world.

We can make the world a better place, one random act of service at the time.

12. Roses

Today, at the lunch table, there was a large clear vase with some very beautiful red roses.

We don't know where they came from and the reason behind them, but I am grateful for the willingness of the recipient to share their stunning red color, their velveteen petals, and their flawless shapes with the rest of the employees.

Those roses put a smile on my face and made me feel happy.
To whomever shared those beautiful red roses with us I say a big thank you!

11. Another Day

It may sound quite ordinary to get up, go to work, come home, do chores, eat dinner, go to bed.

It may sound like a day not quite worth mentioning.

However, when we stop and think that today someone, somewhere, did not wake up or did not make it home from work or school, this ordinary day suddenly changes into an extraordinary day.

I am grateful for another day. No! I am grateful for an extraordinary day. I woke up and went about the day; at the end, I was able to return home.

Another Day! Another chance to tell my family members I love them.

Never take for granted another day. Make every moment count. Be grateful for another day!

10. Make Ups

Since I forgot to post yesterday, I am posting twice today!!

I am grateful for "make ups" because they give me a second chance at something.
In school, make up work allows a student to improve a grade.
At work, a make up day allows to put in some extra hours so one does not have to take vacation or sick time.
In my blogger world, a make up post allows me to catch up with a missed one.

There are several other types of make ups...

Which one is your favorite?

9. Spreadsheets

I got so busy yesterday that I totally forgot to post :(
Today, I want to say that I am grateful for Google spreadsheets because they make budgeting so much easier (and FUN).

I was helping my son set up a spreadsheet for his budget and I had a lot of fun creating formulas. He said I made things more complicated, I said I made them easier as all he has to do now is input numbers and the formulas do all the rest!

Yes, it may be silly, but I am grateful for spreadsheets!

8. Goals

The end of the year is nearing. We will make new goals with fullness of hope they will be fulfilled.

How many times have you made a list of goals? How many of those goals were you able to complete?

I always make a list and every year, as the end approaches, I look at my list and shake my head in disappointment. Goal 1 was not completed, neither was goal 2, or 3, or 4, and the list goes on.

Yet, I am thankful for goals because they give me some direction as to where I want to be. I know this year will not be any different. I will make my list and work on it slowly but steady. My list will be the same as last year's as I do intend to work on those goals and, eventually, complete them.

The one thing I have learned over the years is to break them down; this way, even if I only get to step 3 of 10, I have made some progress. And this is what life is all about: making progress, one step at the time.

Don't be afraid of making goals. Do break them down in smaller steps. Keep track of those steps and one day, that goal will be met.

7. Memories

Things can be lost or destroyed. People pass on. Memories.... memories remain as they get passed on to our children.

I am grateful for memories.

I am grateful for good memories because they bring a smile to my face.
But I am also grateful for not so good memories because they remind me of all the blessing I have, starting with the Atonement of the Savior which allows me to be forgiven for my mistakes.

Share your memories with your loved ones so that you can enjoy good times together and learn from one another's choices.
Share your memories with your loved ones because the day your memory will fade, they will be able to share with you what you once shared with them.

6. All Safely Gathered In

At the end of this Thanksgiving day, I am grateful that all who live under my roof are safely gathered in. I am grateful I have a safe place for us to be.

My heart breaks to know of families who have to run away from their homes to find safety from war, or have to find shelter in public places because they lost all they had due to loss of job or illness.

May all of us who do have the blessing of a safe place to gather with family be mindful of those whose circumstances are not as favorable. May we help when and where we can.

5. Days Off

I am grateful for days off.

Although I never get done as much as I want to get done, I do accomplish a few things I have on the list.

There are plenty of people out there who, due to the nature of their job(s), do not have this blessing. I am indeed grateful that I do. Time is a precious commodity and I need to use it the best I can for as long as I have it.

4. Integrity

I have lots of weaknesses and faults. Heaven only knows all my imperfections. However, the one thing I have is integrity.

Today, I am grateful for integrity because with integrity comes trust.
And it comes with knowledge that you don't have to worry about keeping up with who you are with others, because you are yourself all the time.

3. A Roof Over My Head

It was cold this morning, 27 degrees Fahrenheit. I am not used to such cold weather, although it is not an unprecedented temperature.

I am grateful to have a roof over my head because it keeps me, my family (animals included) safe from cold winds and cold temperatures.

There are plenty of people and animals out there that do not have a warm place to be. There are shelters but not everyone makes it in and should this person have animals, the furbabies would have to stay outside.

I so wish I was a mega billionaire! I would find a way to build small homes (those tiny houses many are raving about) in each community so these people and their pets could have a warm (in winter) or cool (in summer) place to stay.

A few may be homeless by choice. But the majority is homeless because of circumstances. In modern society, no one should be without shelter. Instead of spending billions in things that are not life changing, why not invest in humans and their pets?

2. My Mom

Something made me think about my mom today.

Well, I think about her every day, but the thought that came today was about how my mom does not share my same religion, yet she took the time to sew for me a pioneer costume for a play we were going to have at church. It happened about 30 years ago, but I still remember this like it was yesterday.

I am thankful for my mom and for her love for me. For all the sacrifices she made and for her willingness to help me out with something I cared about, even if she didn't.

1. Thanksgiving

This coming Thursday, it will be Thanksgiving here in the US.
Many people will gather around the table, share a meal as they also share something they are grateful for in their lives.

Long time ago, I started this blog to show appreciation and gratitude for things every day of the year and not just during this time.
Life happened and so my blog fell by the wayside.

It is time I resurrect it. I will count this as day 1!

I need to do so to keep my sanity (counting blessings always brings a ray of sunshine in life!); I need to do so to help others find gratitude in places and things they may not see; I need to do so because I truly am grateful for all that comes my way.

Today, I am grateful I am alive. Not only I woke up and started the day, but I have made the choice to look for the positive in life and to do a good deed every day.

I am usually a helpful creature so I will try to go out of my way for the good deed. What do I mean? I mean that I will look for opportunities to do good things that I do not normally do. I will challenge myself to go the extra mile.

Are you with me?
